You spend your whole life working hard towards retirement and vacation time. Then, when we finally get to that point, we are plagued by new questions.

What location should I choose? Where can I avoid the rising costs of living and still feel safe and relaxed?

Enter Belize, more specifically, Orchid Bay -- a gated community nestled in Northern Belize. Our community features more modernized homes, including our new Bungalow designs.

Many of us dream of beachfront residences and lazy days on the sand, but why should this country be a consideration?

Cost of Living

Money is of primary concern when we make any decision in life. You can get more for your money in beautiful Belize. Daily amenities and services are cheaper compared to Europe or North America. Another major perk is the U.S. Dollar is accepted currency here. Save yourself from the headache of currency exchange!

The Language

English is the lingua franca of the world. In most cases, if you are a native English speaker, traveling is that much easier. It’s important to know and a definite perk that the official language of Belize is English! You can get around the former British colony without the fear of having the wool pulled over your eyes by locals. Live your day to day as easily as you did in your home country.

Spanish is another commonly spoken language, but all official documents, such as real estate agreements are all in English. If you have children, the education system in this country is in English as well.

Safety

With so many stories that strike fear in our hearts about Mexico and Latin America, safety is of the utmost concern for many of us. Understandably, you want to make sure you live in a place that is safe for you and your family.

Despite the statistics that remain skewed from the crime in Belize City, most of Belize is very safe and is an open society with multicultural people and ethnic groups. People here are friendly and tolerant.

Health

The mind has power over everything. If you have a positive and healthy mindset, your body follows and you are less susceptible to illnesses. Living in this amazing location gives you access to fresh locally grown fruits and free-range chicken and grass-fed beef.

Unprocessed and fresh foods can be conveniently found at local supermarkets and shops. The clean environment makes you want to spend more time outdoors. If you decide on moving here, you are just a few steps away from the ocean. Moving to Belize will improve your mental and physical health by providing you with better quality food and a clean and beautiful environment.

Weather

Weather can be a huge deterrent when you are deciding on a location. This is an amazing place because they have warm tropical weather all year round. Say good-bye to parkas and scarves and say hello to flip flops and shorts.

Activities

What activities are available to you near Orchid Bay? Being retired on a beachfront property doesn’t mean you need to be bored all day.

Beaches

There are three main beaches at this location, Orchid Bay Beach, Maya Beach, and Pescadores Beach. Just looking at the velvety sand and clear blue water can lift your spirits. Feel free to lie on the beach until sunset and go for a peaceful walk along the Pescadores Dock, the point of entry into Orchid Bay.

Parks

Conservation plans for Orchid Bay preserve about 10% of lush green foliage and vegetation to give you parks at every turn. Take your dog or children out for the day to a park for a relaxing picnic.

Nature Paths

For more outdoorsy people, you can enjoy a walk through one of the preserved nature paths that take you through the jungle. Really connect with nature on one of these winding paths, all the while enjoying the wildlife and vivid flowers.

Shopping

Homesickness is inevitable when you move to an unfamiliar place. Just across the bay is Chetumal, a city in Mexico. There they have the shopping malls and department stores you are used to back at home with stores such as Walmart, and Home Depot.

Homes in Orchid Bay

If you are from the U.S. or Canada, you will understand Belize law. It is rooted in the British Common Law system. For real estate, this means foreigners are protected by the Belize Constitution, which doesn’t restrict them from owning land here. Studies show that foreigners own over 60% of Belize’s beachfront properties.

Do you like gated communities and privacy? Orchid Bay is a great option for you. What world-class architectural homes can you find here?

Beachfront Condominiums

The beachfront condos put you right at the edge of the water. With exceptional views of the ocean and scenery, it’s the perfect place to retire or invest in as a vacation home for you and your family.

Waterway Villas

The waterway villas have a modern touch with just a little splash of rustic. The simplicity of the wooden interiors matches the laidback lifestyle of Orchid Bay.

Beachfront Casitas

These casitas are one-bedroom mini-houses that boast large screened porches, and a loft for you to use as you see fit. You can literally open the door and step right onto the beach.

Vacation Rentals

If buying property isn’t in your books, vacation rentals are also available. Surround yourself with breathtaking scenery, exotic flowers and plants, and unparalleled serenity. Choose between casitas, condos and other custom homes for your vacation.

Final Thoughts

Belize encourages foreigners to retire on its beautiful sandy beaches. The QRP (Qualified Retirement Program) gives perks to people 45 and older who want to move to here or just be part-time residents. You get tax breaks and are able to import your belongings all tax-free. Sun and fun in such a relaxing atmosphere that won't make you too homesick because of the English speaking culture, what more could you ask for?
